Join Us for a Dynamic Meet & Greet Event!
The Villages Democratic Club invites you to a Meet and Greet meeting with our local City Council member, Domingo Candelas. Here’s a chance to interact with Domingo in person and discover his approach to community engagement, and get answers to your questions.
In January 2023, Domingo was appointed to the San José City Council, representing District 8. He tirelessly works to enhance his constituents’ lives and serves as an elected delegate to the California Democratic Party. Passionate about community, he is also involved in trial advocacy and enjoys family time, travel, and staying active. His mission: respond to concerns, make fair decisions, and prioritize the public’s interest.
Following Sylvia Arenas’ move to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, Domingo Candelas was appointed to fulfill her term, which runs until December 2024. At the time, he was serving as Stanford University’s local government affairs director. Since taking his seat, Domingo has been active, addressing numerous community concerns. Notably, he organized a scam awareness meeting featuring high-level representatives from Sacramento and the Santa Clara District Attorney’s office to teach us how to protect ourselves from technological scammers. Close to home, Domingo collaborates closely with the Villages fire safety committee, ensuring that our safety remains a top priority. His recent successful fire seminar at The Villages was well-attended and educational.
Domingo is a product of San José, California, born to immigrant parents from Zacatecas, Mexico, grew up valuing hard work and integrity. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from San José State University before embarking on a career in public service. Starting as District Director for State Senator Jim Beall, he crafted policies and built coalitions. Later, he advocated for Valley Water and Stanford University.
