On Thursday, August 1, Vice President Harris joined President Biden to welcome home Americans who were freed from Russia. President Biden and Vice President Harris have engaged in complex diplomatic negotiations to bring these wrongfully detained Americans home, and they never stopped fighting for their release. After their release, the Vice President said, “it has been my honor to work alongside our President, Joe Biden, to bring home more than 70 Americans in the last three and a half years. And we will never waver in our commitment to bring home every American who has been wrongfully detained or held hostage. On Wednesday, July 31, Vice President Harris continued her Summer of Engagements by returning to Houston, TX to deliver remarks at Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.’s 60th International Biennial Boule. During her remarks, the Vice President – a fellow Divine Nine member – highlighted how the Biden-Harris Administration has delivered historic investments that are supporting communities, advancing economic opportunity, and helping people thrive. The Vice President shared on her Instagram, “Since 1922, the members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. have fought to realize the promise of America. I spoke with Yulia Navalnaya, widow of Alexey Navalny, following the release, as a result of our prisoner exchange, of 16 individuals detained in Russia. Some of them worked with Navalny to combat corruption and build a free, democratic Russia.
