Eight years ago, we were marching in the streets after Trump got elected. After all, he lost the popular vote. He was the accidental President and we wanted him to know it.
This time feels different. Many voted for him with their eyes wide open. So where do we go from here? Within hours of taking office, Trump unleashed a barrage of executive orders aimed at undoing Biden’s legacy. Many of those orders will face legal challenges, but still, every day will bring a new injustice. We’ll need to choose our battles wisely while keeping our eye on a lot of balls at once. To serve the American people, our Democratic leaders in Congress will have to reach across the aisle to the few reasonable Republicans that remain. And we will have to let our party’s leaders know where to draw the line. We’ll have to support our Democratic state and local governments as they counter the harm. We’ll need to volunteer in our communities, and work to build the structures that will help us prevail next time around. Stay engaged. Take action. Work to win in 2026 and beyond. This is how we’ll get through this together. Oppose Trump’s Cabinet nominees The Senate is holding confirmation hearings for Trump’s Cabinet nominees, many of whom are deeply troubling, even for some Republicans. Contact our California Senators and urge them to vote down these nominees: Senator Alex Padilla
Senator Adam Schiff
Provide your name and ZIP Code when leaving messages. The Fresno numbers are usually the least busy and seldom have full voicemail queues. Find contact information for all your federal and state representatives here. We may live in a blue state, but we still need to let our Democratic representatives know where we stand. They need to hear from us to stay the course, lobby their Democratic colleagues, and resist outside pressure. It may even empower them to sway members of the opposition. Keep up the pressure. It works! Watch the candidate forums for DNC chair On Feb. 1 in National Harbor, Maryland, the Democratic National Committee will elect its new chair. Whoever wins will play a huge role in steering our party to victory in the midterms. Among the more than 400 DNC members voting will be Jason Park, 25, of San Jose. He’s been hearing from other Democrats that the party needs to do a better job getting across how it’s fighting every single day for the American people, and that will inform his vote. He’s heard the leading candidates speak at two forums, with two remaining – a virtual forum on January 23 and an in-person one in Washington, D.C. on January 30. You too can listen in by visiting any of the Democrats’ social media channels, including YouTube and Facebook. Join our Rapid Response Network Trump has promised to begin a mass deportation program on Day One, and we need to be prepared to protect our vulnerable immigrant communities. Santa Clara County’s Rapid Response Network does just that. It trains community members who see an immigration raid happening, or about to happen, to report it to dispatchers. They in turn activate observers who go to the scene to document. Other volunteers support families, while lawyers provide legal representation. If you are interested in volunteering, complete the form here. If you see ICE activity in our county, receive help in real time by calling this 24/7 HOTLINE: (408) 290-1144 Take part in electing our state party leaders Help shape the direction of our statewide party in these challenging times: Register to vote in the election that will determine who represents you on the state party’s Central Committee for the next two years. These delegates will elect statewide party leaders, endorse midterm election candidates and participate in two annual conventions. Click here to register to vote electronically or in person, here to see who’s running in your Assembly District, and here for complete information on the entire process. Registration is currently under way, and the voting period will close on February 23. |
